Utilizing remnants of Zulugrass, Maasai artisans are designing one-of-a-kind bracelets to symbolize the bright futures of educated children. The Leakey Collection will donate 100% of their profits from the sales of these bracelets to pay for teachers’ salaries in rural Kenya.
Beads for Girls Graduation to our “Girls Graduation” counseling program, working with young teens and their families to keep girls on track toward graduation. Young rural girls tend to drop out of school before completing their primary education. We are also dedicating monies to a girls’ scholarship fund.
Beads for Clean Water Bracelet to our “Clean Water for Every Home” project; our goal – put a water dispensing unit, locally called a “leak-tin” in every home. Clean water for drinking and washing helps stop the spread of life threatening disease and illness. This program also teaches children the importance hygiene plays in staying healthy.
Beads for Healthy Gardens Bracelet to our “Healthy Garden” project where we educate women to plant vitamin and mineral rich home gardens. Most rural pregnancy and birth issues, as well as child development problems, can be eradicated by eating a healthy diet. We’ve also created a school program to teach children the importance of a balanced diet.
Each bracelet is 27″ and packaged on a special tag, explaining how the proceeds will be allocated and can be worn wrapped 3-4 times around your wrist. Purchasing 5 bracelets pays for a teacher’s salary for 1 day.
